If it is possible, can it be done without losing a lot of the miles/points in the process? Thanks!

points.com is the best web site for converting airline miles back and forth; I believe you can also convert them to Amtrak miles there too. Unfortunately any time you convert miles, you lose a lot of the vaule so unless you are really close to reward travel in any of the programs, you might find it's not really worth it to change them over.

If you do Points.com, Midwest Airlines is the "bridge". You can swap the US Airways miles to Midwest Airlines miles, then Midwest lets you exchange their miles for Amtrak points.
For AA, I think you may have to look at Alaska Airlines.

trust me don't waste your air miles on us airways.this past summer i flew us airways to London.and i wanted my money back after that flight.
