Come down to
"Is Not!!" "Is Too!!"
Since neither side has irrevocable, harcore, tangible proof. Debating certain individual practices of faith, when to go to church, baptism, communion, faith or works, christmas, Jesus, why argue?
Christians, Why do we continue to debate with atheist who are not going to change?
Atheists, Why do you debate with Christians who are not going to change?
We believe what we believe, for whatever reason, so is the argument simply petty? Why do you participate? Fun, to learn, to grow, to antagonize.......?

Not just the questioner reads the answers, if you can learn different ideas, or give other ideas to someone else, it's worth it. When you justify your belief system, it makes you think more about what you really believe.
There's always room for growth.

I think you're right--it really comes down to one group accepting faith as sufficient to believe and the other asserting that following something without tangible proof is unthinkable. That has never bothered me. I was once a person of faith, but blind faith always bothered me, so I evolved into a person of reason. That was my choice. I don't presume to tell others that they must accept my reasons or make the same choice.
But discussion is not irrelevant. The arguments of agnostics and atheists helped convince me that I was not alone in questioning the validity of faith and the morality of the scriptures. I was not "led away from faith," but the writings of such persons as Robert Ingersoll, Clarence Darrow, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson helped me on the search for truth which I had already begun.

The only people I "debate" with are:
1) People who contact me with genuine questions.
2) People who post genuine questions.
3) People who post hateful questions to get a rise out of us.
I participate on this board to learn more about other people's religion. That helps me learn more about my own belief system (Atheism). I can't not believe in something that I don't understand.
I don't preach, I don't call people idiots for believing. For the most part, I respect ALL people of ALL religions that respect ME and MY choices in life. It's their US given right to practice the religion of their choice, so why would I want to change that?!
It's a neverending story that no one knows the answer to. Everyone thinks that their belief is the right answer. The only difference with me versus a LOT of people in here is that I don't force my point of view ON them.

To be salt and light. As long as people are alive, there is still hope. As it was in my own case of salvation, I was angry and bitter toward "religious" people, right up to the point God cut me to my heart, convicted me of my sin, and brought me to repentance.
My participation here is to share my faith, to defend the faith as a reasonable (and not a blind) faith.
If nothing else, they will have no excuse when they come to the Father. They will not be able to say, "I didn't know. I never heard."

James 1:3-The trying of your faith worketh patience.
We're not suppose to give up just becuase we run ito a wall. We're suppose to be deligent until be conquer the wall and help those who are lost to find the truth.
Doing right as it pretty much says in the scripture, doing right is not easy;sometimes(maybe a lot of times) it requires patience to accomplish what is right.
Do wrong or evil on the other hand, take practically no effort at all, which is why a lot of people fall in to sin.Becuase its easy and thy dont like to sweat too much or at all.

I'm very happy to let people believe what they want. It is when they act as if they have THE TRUTH that I get agitated. That applies mainly to fundamentalist Christians as well as militant atheists who KNOW there is no God, yet can not give evidence that directly reveals the nonexistence of deity.
"Knowing" something and forcing that way on others is wrong. Believing is wonderful. Faith can help you to escape the tortures of the earth.

People should tolerate other people´s ideas. Most of the wars have happened bacause we don´t tolerate other religions, thoughts, even cultures.
Mind your own believes, and let the other people mind their own, in the end all religions take you to the same God and if atheist don´t want to believe in God it´s fine too, they can still be even better people than many fundamentalists and let them belive too whatever they want to believe.
To change the world, to better your marriage, to better your society, be more tolerant...
(Not you, everyone)

We existentialists just sit on the side and watch, trying to figure out why either of you feels the need to make the other believe the same thing you do.

Hi, Jesus is the Word of God and His Gospel must be preached to the whole world,it is everyones choice to accept it or not, but perhaps the way it is preached by diehard Christians is off-putting and not quite the way Jesus expects.

i debate for the fun of it. plus how else can u see different views of things if you dont look for them? im agnostic, so i dont stand on either side of the fence, but i can see from both sides. i like viewing other peoples views. i have my own and what not, but other views are fun to explore.... plus i must say, being an oldest child, i have a tendancy to antagonize. mwahaha.
