I went to a craft store and bought 2 baskets that were on sale . Then I got a bag of scented pinecones and some fake cranberry bunches. Arrange them in your baskets and if you get a tree, cut off some short limbs and put them in there too. Smells good, looks good and you just toss the limbs and keep the rest for next year. I went to Michael's Craft store and the dollar store for this idea. Didn't cost much at all.

How about a few floating candles in a glass compote or dish filled with cranberries? White winter flowering camelias look good floating on cranberries as well. Or maybe a bed of magnolia leaves with a cluster of hand tied pearl colored glass balls in different sizes laying atop?

My kids collect pine cones and cover them in glitter.
(coat them with glue first, then sprinkle on glitter)
We put them in a bowl with some glass ornaments. It's easy, keeps them busy, and it looks nice.
