henna's scientific name is Lawsonia inermis, the chemical in it is called Lawsone , it binds with protein so it stains skin and nails.
henna rarely causes an allergic reaction , the allergy maybe to something added to it like an essential oil.
if you get itching , difficulty swallowing or breathing or swelling you should seek medical assistance immediately and inform them of what happened.
Indigo (indigofera tinctoria) and cassia (cassia obovata or cassia alata) are sold as henna as well but are not henna they are called black henna or neutral henna so it's not real henna.

What things did you use that had henna in it to give you a chemical reaction. People rarely break out due to henna, but of course its possible.
Make sure when using any henna products that it is the pure natural plant and is being called body art quality from a reputable supplier/source

Henna's characteristic staining properties stem from the compound 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, also known as lawsone, hennotannic acid, or natural orange 6. Henna leaves contain up to 5% by weight of the compound, which, in its pure form, is a yellow-orange powder that does not dissolve in water.
