I'm asking because I've had friends whose parents have smoked pot around them. My bf's parents did it when he was quite little but he remembers it. He's never done drugs in his life, but I still think it's a really bad thing to do in front of your kids!!!!

I agree that drinking and smoking cigarettes is bad too. My dad is an alcoholic and both of my parents smoked in front of us kids all the time

I had a neighbor (this was an upper middle class neighborhood with mostly professionals and young families) who used to have friends over and they'd all gather outside and smoke up...they had two small children, the daughter had just finished a bout with chemo and had been cancer free for about 6 months at that time.
My daughter had our patio door open and was playing music...she could smell the pot and before she got to closing the door they had sent there son over to tell her to turn her music down because it was bothering them...they were "entertaining" and couldn't talk over the noise (the music wasn't that loud as we've always ensured our kids never infringe on the privacy of others)...the boy wreaked of pot and it was drifting into our home.
My kids who were fairly young at the time, found it absolutely appalling that these adults would not only smoke in a backyard where everyone around could smell their business...but that they would subject their own small children to the situation. This was in the middle of the day as well. These parents tho did not allow their kids to watch cartoons on tv because most were "too violent", play video games, allow other children to play with them because of "germs" etc.
Some people! So, no...parents should have the intelligence to police themselves particularly if they are engaging in things that have the strong potential to influence a child incorrectly.

I had it around me my whole life and never thought much about it. Things are only bad if you make them bad. It's not like they are smoking pot and then going and to commit crimes.
If you say smoking pot is bad around kids...isn't smoking cigarettes just as bad?? Second hand smoke and all....
What about drinking? I say if your going to exclude and point a finger at one behavior you need to do it for all.
To answer you ques I don't think they should blatenly do it in front of the kids BUT if the kids want to be around as the parents do it (which I did when my dad would smoke) then teach them that is something adults do just like drinking/smoking etc.

how old are the kids? some kids are gonna get into that anyways. i smoke, i admit it, have no kids and am not pregnant at the moment, never been, my mom smokes, but never around me or lol with me, although i have 2 friends that smoke with thier mom, have since they were like 16 or so, now they are grown adults,, so to answer yes and no, depends on the age, if the already do it themselves, and you feel it is an ok thing in moderation than why not, does not neccesarily make you a bad parent. people have many different views on pot, whether or not it really is bad. maybe theparents are using it for medicinal purposes? although if the parents are just stoned all day long and dot act like parents then no, i guess you went way past moderation. i know everyone is gonna say no it is not ok, but i just wanted to point out the instances where it Could be ok :)

Smoking pot is illegal. So smoking pot in front of your children, just teaches them that it is okay to break the law.

It is not o.k. to drink or use drugs around your kids,simply because the human being learns from examples more than talk.And most of us grow up wanting to be like mom and dad,so if you want your child to be good,do good things around them and they will develop good habbits.

It's not necessarily THAT bad. There are alot worse things in this world parents can do in front of their kids than smoking pot. Before you start thinking I dont know what I am talking about please consider this: In my line of work I have seen these things firsthand. Pot is nothing in comparison.

i had a friend who smoked pot - he use to wait till his kids where in bed and go out into the garden and do it. if you are going to do it, thats when it should be done (though realy not at all)

NO!! its not ok!! parents should be role models for their kids. the old "don't do as i do, do as i say" doesn't work anymore. pot can lead to other drugs and if the parents are using drugs they will lose their credibility and the respect of their children. this could have disastrous consequences.

heck no. ive always contributed to me not smoking and not drinking until I was old enough and responsible enough to my parents never having it in the house.
we never had 'the talk' about drinking and smoking and drugs...i just never did anything.
