Is it fair to stay with someone when you have decided to break up?
Rather than ponder what is fair, I would ask myself the question "Am I being true to myself by staying with someone when I have decided to break off the relationship?"
People pleasing, doing something against my true self is a form of dishonesty.
Do you choose to break up? Or are you looking for an excuse to stay in the relationship? Sometimes we are not completely honest with ourselves. If you are sure that you are finished with the relationship, then the honest things to do would be to speak your truth. If you are unsure, then wait, but be honest and avoid using Christmas as a reason to stay.

If you really are planning on breaking up, the sooner the better. If you don't to be with that person anymore why spend the holidays wondering when to break the bad news, Plus if you are going to buy a gift that is just one more thing that he/she is going to have to throw away from you. And I doubt that they want to spen the holidays with someone who doesn't want to be with them anyways.
The longer you wait the worst you will make it for both of you.

Are you trying to get out of buying a gift? because if you are then that's hardcore! If you don't want to be with this person and it can be put off until after the holidays then do that. If you want to be somewhere else instead of with them them be honest and let them know. Be respectful though!

Depends on if they have family to be with on christmas. If they don't have anybody to spend christmas with then I would wait. But if they have a big family to spend christmas with then dump their a*s. They'll be OK.

yeah, if you hate them cause them maximum pain just when they've bought you something expensive as a gift.
It would be worse to break up just after you've received their gift.
