We have a cat that we let outside after it starting peeing on all our clothes and he recently got in a fight outside with a racoon and got cut up real bad. We decided we want to keep him indoors again, but all he does is whine to go outside. Any ideas to get him to stop whining and be comfortable with just staying inside again.

Squirt him with water when he wants to bolt out of the door. Give him a window seat.. Petsmart has them. Place the window seat near a tree or just a good look outdoors to see birds and such. I like to put a bird feeder near the window seat to attract the birds and the cats watch.. He will protest for quite a while but don't give in its too dangerous out there. Good luck

About peeing on things is it male and just not fixed if this is the case then it wont stop becuase it it marking its space as for making it be quiet while indoors i would say to you this when we had our cat she would go in heat all the time that is untill we had her fixed and to make her shut up what we would do is take an empty pill bottle and fill it half way up with pennys or dimes and when she would start meowing too loudly we would shake it and she would get scared and run away after doing this a few times she knew when we reached for that pill bottle that she needed to be quiet and she was so we no longer even had to shake it at her and she was a lil angel so i would suggest you do something simmalar

When i moved i had to make my cat an indoor cat as well.. Since moving and he was in a new enviroment it made the transition new for him he didn't know where outside was.. If you have a garage or another room that u can introduce him to and have him go there whenever he wants to go "out". Also make sure you have plenty of things to keep him busy and entertained.

I just think you should let him out since he wants out.Thats what i do with my little boy socks he likes to stay in awhile then he is ready to go out.Alot of people say you dont love a cat if you leave it out there to get ran over or attacked.but i do lov him i just cant bring myself to take his freedom away.but here is what you needed to know.if you want him to be a inside cat again try gettiing him activities to play with a scratch post some cat nip and a fake toy mouse and after alot of meows he will get over it.good luck to you and a hope the little guy recovers okay.

if you really want to keep him inside for good, keep a coffee can full of change near the door and shake it every time he tries to run out between your feet. he'll learn to associate that loud, scary noise with the doors out of the house and stop attempting to sneak.

i would also suggest buying some kitty grass. you can buy these little packets or planters at the pet store and grow some grass inside. my cats love it!

Chase him away from the door when it is opened or if he is sitting there. Make sure if you open the door he is not next to you ready to take off.

patience, keep him entertained inside so he would want to stay in, lots of toys to keep it exciting, maybe a log to jump on and scratch,
