According to this article, belief in a God damages a society.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1798944,00.html
Countries like France, Japan and the Scandinavian countries have been the most successful in reducing murder rates, early mortality, sexually transmitted diseases and abortion.
The rates of gonorrhoea in adolescents in the US are up to 300 times higher than in less devout democratic countries. The US also suffered from “uniquely high” adolescent and adult syphilis infection rates, and adolescent abortion rates. The US is the world’s only prosperous democracy where murder rates were still high.
In countries like Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Holland, France, Japan and Belgium there are many atheists holding a public office. In some of these countries atheists are in fact the majority of the parliament.
Shouldn't we just ban religious people from holding a public office? For the love of our children and the love for the future of our planet?

I've met Atheists who tried to cram the whole 'no god/s' thing down my throat and they were just as bad as the Christian people who try to convert others.
ANYONE who thinks they are 100% right when it comes to religion/god/spirituality should open their eyes. They all come across the same in the end.

Surely you jest. France...sucessful at reducing murder rates. Have you seen the riots in the south where the police are afraid to go?
Banning religious people would violate the constitution. The free expression of religion is not to be restricted. The constitution prohibits government from interfering in religion not the other way around.
As for the studies cited in the times (read "liberal rag") they ae not controlled studies. they are a collection of statistics cherry picked.
The other issue they neglect in this study is that the US is unique among world countries in that it has the most statistics available due to heavy documentation requirements. No other country has that level of sophistication.
Controlled for that, you find that the disease and death rates are dramatically different in developed countries.
By the way, this is more of a political question and I suspect posted here only to get the goat of folks of religion.

If the politicians who claim to be religious truly were that, then I doubt we would have the corruption we have today. If they truly loved God, and God's children (we the people) they would put us first before selfish ambitions. Most 'religious' politicians just use the 'I have God on my side' excuse to get away with murder (as in the case of wars).
What I think should be banned is the financing of political parties from the big corporations and businesses that hold our politicians around their little fingers! They are the true powers behind the powers, that is where we should be pointing fingers.

No.
Define "we" and then probably the truth will manifest itself.
You forgot the love of life, eternal life.
The damage to society is by you.
Your very thoughts damage society by asking this question.
You are destroying this society by blaspheming God, and reducing our blessings.
You are the destroyer, you are the accuser, you are Abaddon.
You promote spiritual death and know not truth.
Woe unto you !!!
Mat 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
Mat 23:28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
You are only part of this forum to kill and destroy. Your way is death, eternal death.

After you're done banning religion (Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddists, Hindues, Pagans), who are you going to ban next? Skin color? Sex? Nationality? Age?
The problem with banning is that it doesn't end. No, it's best to keep things the way they are. Otherwise, you're moving dangerously towards things like Hitler's vision of Germany.

Ask most people in other countries where they would rather live...The US or one of those other countries. US will win by a landslide every time.
There is no more logic to you argument than saying that because penguins don't fly, ketchup goes better on fries.

I believe that its the ABrahamic God that causes problems, i dont see Pagans doing the crap christians or muslims do, I know atheists assume well since one religion is bad then they all are, but lets not get too hasty here, i am not accoutable for what other religious groups say and do.

Could it be that some of these could be contributed to other factors, such as, education/training (or lack of), economic, moral and social factors or just plain bad choices?
