I take mostly nature photography, macros, my pets, sky, landscapes, plants, etc. Any tips you can give me to make it look clearer?

I KNOW that I need to wait for the camera to focus. I read the manual, people!!

I already know how to tweak and edit them in Photoshop.

The question was, "How can I take better pictures with a Sony DSC-S500?"!!! Not, "With what cameras can I take better pictures?"!!!

DO NOT suggest other models, PLEASE!

You're much better off getting an SLR. Nikon just came out with the D40, one of the cheapest SLR on the market. You can also pick up a used Canon 300D on eBAY for around $400. You will be able to take infinitely better photos (macro/landscape/other) than with the DSCS500.

Or a tripod. That camera is not really made for much more then macro photos and family pictures. Buy photoshop elements and tweak the pictures after you take them

You obviously know to hold your camera steady as possible, untill the shot is actually taken. Short of a tripod lean camera on anything solid to hold steady, lay it on something solid again untill photo IS ACTUALLY TAKEN.

Try using a Monopod. I noticed a big difference when I started using one even with a point & shoot.
