They are still widely prescribed, although there have been so many problems lately with benzo abuse and addiction. A lot of people don't realize that abusing a benzo can be just as bad as abusing cocaine or other drugs. The most widely prescribed one seems to be xanax, along with ativan and klonopin. Detoxing from a benzo can be very difficult once addicted.
