I've heard about mean servers, cash only, and maybe a minimum charge? I was hoping to go for a late night snack on Christmas as a tourist. Please fill me in.

They aren't mean, per se, but they can be picky about returning stuff simply because you don't like something small on it and may take a while to bring it back getting to every other table first. For the most part, their image has cleaned up in the past 10 years, though.

If you like pickles and sandwiches, they're a nice place to go. I personally know a half dozen delis (Katz's, Stage, etc...) that I like better than them, but they obviously don't have the sit down area that the Carnegie has.

Best of luck and enjoy your trip to New York!
