It depends on your cultural affinity and the languages in which you are already fluent. English has mostly a Germanic structure but with lots of Latin influences, especially loanwords. The original Germanic grammar has been much simplified.
Spanish, French and Russian are official languages of the United Nations (besides English, Chinese and Arabic), should you decide to learn one, my recommendation would be to select of the three. Otherwise you may choose the language of a country you would like to do business with or relocate to.

Other than English, Spanish. Mexico and many people (including me) speak it here in the US. Almost all of South America speaks Spanish along with all of Central America (except Belize). And of course, Spain speaks it as well. Spanish is the most used romance language.
Romance languages are languages derived from latin (Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Catalan, and many others). Once you learn Spanish, it will be a breeze to learn Portuguese, followed by Italian, then French..... They are all related to each other (even Romanian!) I strongly recommend any of the major romance languages. It will always come in handy!

No, it mostly would possibly not be valuable, except you in particular search out areas in which you'll be able to use it. It's only a blending of languages with a powerful groundwork in romance languages, however men and women who do not talk esperanto would now not comprehend all of it (a few will comprehend greater than others). Personally I reside amongst Catalans and Spaniards and I've heard a few of their feedback on it. "Eww" summarizes it beautiful good. You're so much larger off finding out a REAL language, like Spanish for instance, for you to get you so much additional and plenty of extra men and women talk it. Esperanto is virtually vain, and generally now not appeared upon favourably by way of audio system of romance languages.

Besides English, I'd say that in Europe, French would be the handiest as it seems many people in every European country speak at least some French. In North & South America, Spanish would be the handiest. HTH, HB

Any of the "romance" languages; Spanish, French, Italian or Portuguese. They are all very similar, so after you know one, it's pretty easy to learn another one. It also depends on where you live. If you live in the southwest US, Spanish would probably be the one to learn first. If you have a large French, Italian, or Portuguese community in your area, one of these would better serve you.
Good Luck! (Buena Suerte in Spanish, Bonne Chance in French, Buona Fortuna in Italian, or Boa Sorte in Portuguese)

Other than English, I'd guess French, as it used to be considered the language of diplomacy. The real answer is, however, it depends on where you plan on going in Europe... if you are going to Germany, learn German, etc.
