Airline pilots earn lots of money!!
If you wish to quantify their pay per annum, I would say this:
Most commercial airlines full pilot's license draw in excess of a 6 digits per year salary, which is over $100,000.00
Many of these pilots are ex-military (USAF, USAAC, USN, USMC)) pilots leftover from WW II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian
Gulf I and Persian Gulf II conflicts.

Many can fly single engine airframes as well as multiple engine airframes, both turbo-prop and all jet, depending on the airframe
and engine configuration.
Some prefer to fly only single engine such as the Cessna 225,
or the Piper Cub 305, or any of those kinds of airframes.
Others fly the big MD80s, the Boeing 737, 47, 67, and 77
airframes, some even the hugh Air France's Air Bus which
has a passenger capacity of 300 souls.
Some pilots fly both categories of airframes, its their call.

So, to sum up, Airline Pilots are well paid, and belong to a powerful union, to help arbitrate contract disputes, oversee
their pay and benefits, and other considerations.
Its a very honorable profession, and has few drawbacks other than mid-air hi-jackings and terrorist's threats.
Those are bad enough, as we witnessed with 9/11 tragedy.

Thats my message, good luck

Well, most of the major airlines have had major cutbacks. many have lowered thier pilots salaries and some have even taken away thier retirement funds.

My friend was making over $200k at one time. he has been a Pilot for US Airways for 21 years. I think he now makes a little less over $100k with the cutbacks and he also lost his retirement.

Still, in todays world, that is a very nice salary to have!

The guys flying the small aircraft for the "commuters" make as little as $17,000 to start. A captain with lots of flight time, at a major carrier, and seniority can make over $100,000. All depends on the carrier, the union and the work rules.

it depends on the type of aircraft you are flying and the airlines you are working for. usually, the bigger the aircraft, the more pay you get as a pilot. the rank counts too.
