As the others have said, no, you can't.

But why would you want to? Please provide additional details as maybe there's something you need to do that I can help with.

Thanks for the additional info. If you format, you'll need to reinstall XP and then upgrade to SP2 (and reinstall all your applications, and restore all your data files from backup).

Surely just easier to apply the SP2 upgrade without formatting? Unless there's something preventing you from doing this (or you've received some dodgy advice)?

Feel free to send me an email...

As stated above, you cannot format a drive that is in use. This is because formatting a drive will erase EVERYTHING on the drive, including whatever Windows installations are on the drive, restoring it to the original state as it was when it was delivered from the manufacturer. Be absolutely certain that you really want to format your drive before you start, and make sure you have all of your install cds ready.

You cannot as Windows will not let you.

It will let you know that it cannot format a drive which is currently in use.

EDIT:

Go here : http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp

It is a website that will explain how to slipstream SP2 into your Windows installation. So, when you re-install WinXP, you do not have to install SP2, because it will be integrated already.

If it relatively is an argument. in any different case, in the adventure that your XP cd is bootable, then verify the gadget is thoroughly became off, and the cd is in the cd force. turn on the gadget, whilst it asks what you like besides from, decide on cd. in the process the setup you would be asked in case you desire to format the force, and/or upload/del/erase partitions. verify you delete the present partition, and create a sparkling one, making use of maximum volume of area allowed, and deploy XP. good luck.

Just download SP2 it's a patch just like all windows updates. You shouldn't nead a re-install of windows. Just make shure to do a disk clean, scandisk, and defrag before installing it.

No you must restart the computer and hold down F8 and start computer with command prompt only and reformat from there. Or just insert your windows xp disc and it will reinstall.
