Stevet Rochdale from Swindon North on A419 to M5 north on M5 to M6 north. Exit M6 onto M62 West bound and follow signs for Leeds. Soon you will pick up signs for Rochdale. In good traffic it should take three and half hours.

In fact, there are three towns called Swindon in the UK, so it depends which Swindon do you mean.
The biggest one is in Wiltshire between Oxford, Newbury, Bath and Gloucester. This one is about 180 miles (290 km) away from Rochdale. You have to get out of Swindon heading nothwest on A419, and just before reaching Cirencester, take A417 toward Gloucester. This should take you to M5 which you have to take north. When you get to Birmingham, the highway changes to M6 which you should continue on all the way to Warrington which is located between Liverpool and Manchester. From there you have to take M62 toward Manchester, then turn on M60 around the north of Manchester, then back again on M62 toward Rochdale.
The second Swindon is north of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. It is 147 miles (237 km) away from Rochdale. To get there, you go south out of Swindon to catch A4019 in northwest Cheltenham. You take A4019 west to reach M5. If you go north on M5 you should be on the same route describe in the first Swindon above.
The last Swindon is in West Midlands to the west of Birmingham. This one is 101 miles (162 km) from Rochdale. You have to get out heading east toward Himley where you can catch route B4176. You drive shortly on this route to get to A449 which you should take heading north. You continue on A449 until you reach Gailey. Don't be tempted to turn on M54 on the way. Contuining on A449 is better. At Gailey you turn shortly east on A5 to catch M6 which you should take north. The rest is also as explained in the first Swindon.
Enjoy!!
