I respect all people who join the armed forces of their countries, no matter which branch. They have guts to put themselves in the way of harm to protect their fellow citizens.
I would say, "Well, good for you. I'm glad to know that someone just out of high school already knows what he wants to do with the next few years of his life!"
Why don't you take some specialty courses after you re-enlist in a few years, and become a Navy Seal? That would be a LOT more impressive for most of those airheads out there.

It's most likely the whole stigma that has been attached to those being in the Navy as being "gay" due to the apparent notion that they have it easier then other branches of the military. I am in no way saying that, that is true but I have heard a lot of people have negative reactions to those who are currently in the Navy on these premises.
Furthermore, I dated this really wussy douche not too long ago and he was previously in the Navy and for some reason, neither myself or any of my friends were really surprised.

Y-M-C-A. Because you still look like a high school kid at 18. If you were a navy pilot and older, that would impress the chicks. Being a lowly seaman doesn't impress the girls.

Both of my neices joined the Air Force because they lived in a tiny podunk town with no opportunity and they wanted to get out and see the world and get training for a career, and that's what they did. So when I hear someone is in any of the armed forces, I think they must want to go somewhere with their life. As far as younger girls, who knows what they think.

First of all all questions are not stupid. They are probably wondering why you went into the navy and why at a young age.

They probably think you weren't able to get into college and you have no future. Women want stable men with earning potential - the Navy provides neither!

your right, stupid question! I entered the navy at 18 also and never used this line to open a conversation with anyone...leave that out and just be yourself!
By the way, GOOD LUCK out there! and thanks for serving.

My husband was in the Navy. I think it's a courageous act, to join the service. Don't be ashamed of your job. :)
