Emancipation means that the child is free to be on their own, but at 18, they are legally free

Why does the child need to be fully emancipated?

"Emancipation" is when a person becomes legally responsible for themself. Usually this is automatic at 18, but someone with disabilities it may not depending on what disability.

emancipation? well if the person is 18 bthen it means nothing to them. it is for minors, who want to be considered adults, and can prove to the courts that they can take care of them selves

They are 18. Unless they have been declared incompetent then they are adults.
