cause i mean he was ok but when i watch his fights there not really like standing out from other fights like mike tysons... and he ditched going 2 war... he was always seen with malcom x... i think he was just another boxer but had a big mouth and he was also known because he was the first black blah blah whatever. is there any fight that makes him "the best boxer" or everything that people say?

In a word yes he was a great fighter he possessed every attribute a fighter should hope to have he was born to be a fighter he was 6-3 220lbs of athletic he had speed of foot and had reflect like a cat he had more power than one would guess ask Joe Frazier and George Forman he could take a punch see Sunny Liston Ernie Shavers again George For man and Joe Frazier and he had a brilliant boxing mind a master strategist and he he had the big est heart ever the will to win. I don,t know how old some of you are but i,m looking at some of your questions and Iask my self are you serious Ali is a man of men and a champion he is to be revered he was so much more than a fighter he was a fighter inside the ring and out he fought other fighters he fought the government and his own demons women I don,t see the level of respect a person of Ali stature is getting from a lot of you Icould go on and on about this man but do your research be for you talk about a person that you know nothing about If you get the time send him a card and just say hi champ it would mean a lot because that is who he is and yes he can still read

Ali was the greatest. Not necessarily in America - but Worldwide! He did so much for 3rd world countries it's not even funny. He was a role model to young athletes, a in-depth thinker, the first LOUD MOUTH in sports (which is common in sports now a days), he was not afraid of the press and media (he was the first to truely embrace them), he was a muslim when it wasn't popular (and stuck by his guns), loved his fans, loved his family, never said a misguided or angry word to or in public, and besides all of that - he was a legend winning the heavy weight title (THE toughest title in boxing - along with Middle weight) THREE times againt champions. Between Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston, and George Foreman (all champions and Olympic athletes) those guys fought wars in the ring. He's just short of a Rocky story.
Toss in the fact that he was poor as dirt as a child and never let his millions of dollars seperate him from his fans and the general people (unlike every athlete today who doesn't even want to sigh a freakin autograph) and you'd have to say.... HE WAS THE GREATEST!

You have probably only watched his fights in the'70's. He was not at his peak during this period of his career and still managed to defeat Foreman, Frazier twice, Norton twice, solid fighters like Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers, Oscar Bonavena, Jerry Quarry. If you want to see the brilliance of Ali check out his fights from the '60's.
One in particular from the '60's is the Cleveland Williams fight. Speed of hand and foot beyond belief, especially for a heavyweight. He absolutely destroyed Williams in that fight. A brilliant performance.

Ali was the best fighter in his time,
He was the best, at rapping & rhyme
Won most of the fight, before entering the ring
Mind whipping your butt, was his special thing
Can't say He was the best, pound for pound
But he did have a knack, for naming the round
There was Muhammad Ali, and all of the rest
But I will have to say, Muhammad Ali was best.

Float like a Butterfly, Sting like a bee
You hands can't hit, what your eyes can't see.

Saw Ali Frazier III the other night.

He was tripleling up on lead rights.

He "Rope-A-Doped" for two minutes in a middle round and then unleased a one minute barrage and during that span took at least five text book Frazier left hooks flush to the head. He was wobbled but man what a chin!

Fastest heavyweight I ever saw. Bar none!

When Ali started in the mid 60's he was unknown so he ran his mouth a lot,He done this to get attention and it worked, everyone hated him then and didn't have any faith in him.He proved them wrong and came to be the Greatest fighter of our time.I don't believe any one could have been any better. Yes he was as good if not better than people ever gave him credit for.

He absolutely dominated his era, which was a strong one. Was he better than Joe Louis or Ray Robinson? There's no way to know, but he is on the short list of the great boxers, that's for sure.

I didn't like him, but I gotta give the devil his due! He had the fastest hands I've ever saw in the ring, and was one of the toughest fighters ever. I couldn't believe he got up within two seconds of Joe Frazier's crushing left hook that floored him in their first fight (see link below). He went the distance against Kenny Norton after Norton broke his jaw in the second round. He came close to dying after getting one hell of a beating in his and Frazier's third fight (Well known as, "The Thrilla in Manila" ) and still came back to win the fight! He was fast in the ring, and was a master of opponent psychology!

But, the guy's ego was bigger then his brain. He tried to make one too many comebacks, and Larry Holmes made him look sick. The reason the guy can barely speak straight right now is because his ego wouldn't let him realize that his day had past him!

I SAW 90% OF ALI'S PRO FIGHTS, HE WAS A GOOD STRATEGIC FIGHTER, WHO DID NOT BY ANY MEANS HAVE A GLASS JAW, WHO WOULD IN HIS PRIME MEANING BEFORE THE WAR ISSUE WAS FAST, LIGHT ON HIS FEET AND HAD ACCURACY, NOT A HARD PUNCHER BUT WOULD GET THE JOB DONE ON WILL AND HANDSPEED.. HIS BEST WAS LOST, WHILE HIS LICENSE WAS REVOKED, ALSO BY SAYING HE WAS A GOOD STRATEGIC FIGHTER, DOES NOT DEMEAN HIS GREATNESS, BECAUSE HE FOUGHT GREAT PEOPLE, FOREMAN, FRAZIER, NORTON, AFTER HIS PRIME, IT'S JUST HIS STRATEGRY CAUSED HIM TO PAY A HEAVY PRICE TAG, USING YOUR HEAD AND BODY FOR THOSE MASSIVE BLOWS HE TOOK JUST TO COUNTER AFTER THEY WERE TIRED.... AND BY THE WAY CLEVELAND WILLIAMS WAS AWESOME....BUT WAS OFF THE WHOLE YEAR OF 1965 FROM A GUNSHOT TO THE ABDOMEN, A357 MAGNUM, SHOT BY A COP ALMOST KILLED HIM AND SUFFERED PERMANENT KIDNEY DAMAGE, HE WAS'NT THE SAME AFTER THAT

Ali was the Greatest because he beat you before he even got into the ring. He beat you up mentally, and physically. He was the ultimate intimidate.People were scared to get in the ring with him,and most of all he backed up what he said.
