And . . . the 3 oz per liquid must be in a container no bigger than 3oz. So, if you have a 4 oz bottle that is only half full, they will not allow it in a carry on. (An exception to this is saline solution for contacts which is expressly allowed and from my experience, is available in travel sized bottles which are 4 oz. This is also not required to fit into your clear plastic baggie.)

Only for carry-on. You can put as much as you want in your checked bags.
