According to some news articles lately, fruitcake can last up to 25 years if properly wrapped and stored. Ages past people would candy the fruit so it would last longer. They needed something to put the fruit in and somehow they came up with fruitcake. My mother used to make fruitcakes each Christmas. I suggested to her one year to only make it every second Christmas and we'd keep it in the freezer (properly wrapped). It was fine when I took it out a couple of years later.

Forever..........you see, all the fruitcakes that are floating around today were made by Neanderthal Man, it's just that they have been given, re-given and so forth through the millennium.......I don't know, have never known or met, and doubt there is anyone on the face of this planet who actually LIKES fruitcake............Years ago, my mother took one and made a kind of like bread pudding with a fruitcake (that by that time was at least a couple years old) and it wasn't too bad.......but put enough eggs, milk, cream and sugar with just about anything and it will be good......Enjoy the Holidays......

Apparently quite a while, because there has only been one fruitcake, everyone keeps giving it away.

We had one in our freezer for almost twenty years.
I tried a little taste out of curiosity, and it seemed fine, for fruitcake that is.

I think a fruitcake can last as long as you keep it in the frige.

It will stay fresh FOREVER, they NEVER go bad! However, it is always the very LAST dessert that your guests will touch.
