I work for a Dentist, here are the post-op instructions that we give our patients concerning food and extractions.
A light diet and plenty of liquids is advised during the first 24 hours. Avoid sucking through a straw, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and soda.. as these things interfere with the proper clotting of blood in the socket during the first 24 hours.
On the second day you just play it by ear,, of course I would still stay away from hard sharp food for a few days while the area is still tender (chips, pretzels etc)
Good luck!

It really depends on how much bleeding you have. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I didn't have a lot of bleeding or swelling, so I was back to eating solid food by the second or third day. Carbonated drinks wouldn't hurt much, but the carbonation will make your wounds burn like hell.

stay away from carbonated drinks because they have loads of sugar and the carbon can bubble off the blood clot causing a dry socket. Also avoid smoking and using a straw. Smoking will slow down healing and restricts blood flow.

Carbonated drinks didn't really leave a good sensation when I tried drinking them after I had my teeth pulled. Definantly don't use a straw, you can get dry sockets that way. I'd start with sprite first before coke. Try eating mashed potatoes, jell-o, and soup.

no! the carbonation can flush out the scabs and leave you with dry socket. trust me when i say there is no pain like a dry socket. i ate a lot of mashed potatoes, soup, mac and cheese, yogurt, jello, pudding and spaghetti.

nothing through a straw, since the suction would cause more pain. and hopefully you don't get dry socket...that really hurts....Eat anything that doesn't make it hurt, and that won't get stuck down in the holes....I feel for ya...
