Because they act like they do sometimes. They aren’t (not even close), but it’s like they want to pretend they are.

I agree that both sides can be a little quick to pull the persicution card, but c'mon!
Some of you are telling me, what, that Atheists get equal treatment in this country? You walk around with that AA pendant around your neck for a couple of weeks and then tell me what you think. - I live in the bible belt, I know better.

If your ancestors were persicuted, that doesn't mean you are. My ancestors were persicuted too. In fact if you ga back far enough, everyone's ancestors were persicuted. ;-)

Christians (not all, of course, but a lot) like to say they are being persecuted when really all it is is that people who don't want to listen to them preaching are telling them to go away.

Atheists aren't persecuted. But there are sects of Christianity that will have you believe that their persecution, even today, exceeds anything experienced by the Jews thoughout history, the slaves they brought back from Africa, "witches" and heretics at their hands, the Native Americans they gave smallpox-infected blankets to as "gifts", and the Muslims they brought to within an inch of extinction in the Crusades. I need to keep a powerful anti-emetic on standby when they start out with that crap.
Ulp! Looks like I'm gonna need it right now...

Before you make a sweeping statement that "Christians aren't persecuted," perhaps you should go here:
http://www.prisoneralert.com/vompw_persecution.htm
"Around the world today Christians are being persecuted for their faith. More than 70 million Christians have been martyred for their faith since 33 AD. This year an estimated 160,000 believers will die at the hands of their oppressors and over 200 million will be persecuted, arrested, tortured, beaten or jailed. In many nations it is illegal to own a Bible, share your faith, change your faith or allow children under 18 to attend a religious service."
So would you like to clarify? Perhaps you meant American or European Christians?

I'm an atheist, but I completely disagree with what you are saying!
I don't know about any atheists or Christians getting very much "persecution" in the U.S., U.K. & Australia & a few others..
But as for most of the other Christians in the rest of the world I personally know that they get great persecution, & even death but atheists there do not.
So what exactly are you talking about darling?

You have no idea in the end Christians will be persecuted and die for there Faith for not accepting the mark of the beast also know as the anti christ. Itis already written Christains merely get angry for they dont know how to make people understand that we all have a choice to make and we are suppose to take the gospel to the World. The so called religion ( Atheist) it's considered merley believer or nonbeliever thats what it all boils down to. Its not about religion its about a personal RELATIONSHIP with the Father. GET IT RIGHT BEFORE YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE THIS CHRISTANS HAVE BEEN DIEING FOR THERE FAITH WAY BEFORE A RELIGION CALLED ATHEISTS EXSITED.

I disagree. I think that Christians are persecuted every day. Even to the point that there is a controversy about saying Merry Christmas. It's ridiculous. I don't put others down for what they believe or not believe and I feel like I should not be put down for being a Christian or be called weak or stupid for what I believe. I think we should all just learn to live together with our differences and allow each other to exist and believe what is best for each of us.

Let me clarify: In the USA, which is where I live and the only place I can really answer about.
They're all a bunch of martyrs. Someone tells them they're being annoying, and then they go "That's OK, Jesus told us we would be persecuted for our beliefs!!"
And yeah, they have been killed in the past for their beliefs, but not nearly as much as they've killed other people for not believing the same as they do.
Atheists, however, are denied jobs and discriminated against whenever they speak up. Even so much to the point where the last George Bush claimed that we "shouldn't be considered American citizens."

well somewhere in the bible it says that jesus told them they were going to be persecuted like he was... so some of them choose it to be in this forum, cuz that's a whole lot easier then being whipped and crucified...

lol, i dont think either is persecuted 10% as much as they think. ya'll blow everything into proportions. no one is making you tell the world what you are, and if your getting in everyones face about what you are, its not persecution, its people giving you the lack of rerspect your giving them.
