It will need to be valid for at least 6 months....

and yes you will need to renew it.. shame really as the cost has gone up and you'll be issued with one of those biometric ones... I was in the same position a few months ago..

P.S I'd send it off pretty quickly to be renewed as they can take ages to sort it out. You'll need to send back your own passport as well.
See:
http://www.passport.gov.uk/passport_renewing.asp

Cost is £66 for a renewal, £80 if you want it renewed within a week [fast tracked] or £93 by appointment only at passport office counters - guaranteed same-day service

I'm pretty sure your passport has to be valid for six months after the end of your journey.

Check with the Passport Office though on 0871 296 0111

Phone the relevant embassies and ask!
Alternatively log onto their websites and get the info.

Honestly, its pointless asking for very important info such as this on a site such as this - you need certainties, not probabilities.

Oz, don't know. US <- It does not have to be valid for six months, don't let anyone convince you otherwise, phone the embassy if you don't believe me.
