I heard if you put a piece of peeled apple in the container it will keep them soft. Any truth to this?

I dont know about the apple but I know that if you put a few slices of bread in with them they'll stay soft. The bread dries out and gets pretty solid so whoever youre sending them too should throw that out...or make croutons.

The peeled apple does work. For added zing, put a wooden toothpick into some unadulterated, pure cinnamon bark essential oil and poke this cinnamon-permeated toothpick well into the apple. The scent when the person opens the cookies will be so wonderfully reminiscent of Christmas baking in Mom's kitchen. Get the unadulterated essential oils at http://tinyurl.com/ykxyuk

Put the cookies in a ziplock baggie and put the apple in as well.

All the best!

If karl is right about the bread slice thing, then I would suggest that because an apple would make your cookies taste like apple. Also, just make sure the cookies are in an airtight container or ziploc bag.

Put a slice of bread. It keeps them soft and fresh!

Dont do the apple slice, what happens when it gets moldy? The reason they got hard is because the moisture is evaperating, wrap them in plastic, or a zip lock with no air in it.
