Yes. If you dispute it through the credit bureaus, they have 30 days from the date it is RECEIVED to investigate. After that is it removed.

HOWEVER, the company can still respond later to validate it, at which time it would go back on you report as confirmed valid. But this almost never happens as thirty days should be plenty of time.

Dispute online..its much faster. :-)

Yes, you can authorize the credit bureau to remove it from your report. You need to make sure you send the debt validation letter via Certified Mail so there is proof when it was received. Go to http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/debt_validation.shtml for more information.
