Praying in the Spirit is when you come to the point of not knowing how or what to pray about and you allow the Holy Spirit of God to pray through you using a language which you nither know or understand. He uses you to pray about things that He wants to affect. To accomplish His goals for and through us.

In Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost, the people in the upper room were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (see Acts 2:4)

I think praying in the Spirit means to pray with tongues, which makes sense since that is a personal prayer language between you and God. It is also a weapon for warfare because the enemy cannot understand it, so it is alot harder to put up roadblocks if he can't understand what you are praying.

I hope that all makes sense to you. Blessings.

To let the Holy Spirit guide your prayers.
Like if I'm praying it might be for things that concern me. Please God let my daughter finish college and get a job before marriage. But if I'm guided by the Holy Spirit it might be more like Please God let my daughter and all young people have their spiritual eyes opened to the Goodness of God that they may have a relationship with God and the Peace which surpasses human understanding.
Some people believe that it is praying in tongues as well.

Speaking in tongues, praying in an unknown language - the purpose is for when you don't know what to pray exactly, you speak in this language , given to you by the Holy Spirit, and it is allowing Him to pray through you, because only He knows what to pray at that moment.

Praying is going to work, looking after your Kids, fixing the house, trying to stay healthy. It's just everyday life but lived for others instead of yourself.

Your heavenly prayer language (speaking in tongues.)

It is to edify your spirit. It is a direct connection with your spirit and God. When you pray in tongues...you don't know what you are praying but your spirit does.

I think that when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, He intercedes for us on our behalf with the Father. The Spirit was sent to us to at Pentecost to take the place of Jesus being with us.
