I use Photoshop a lot and a message keeps popping up that Windows is low on virtual memory. I'm worried that my computer is going to crash because this happens almost everyday. I have 512 mem w/80g harddrive. Help!

Photoshop takes lots of Memory, but as you mention that your RAM is 512 then the problem might be because of the background programs that are running in your computer, try to free up some space in your computer and close any other application before opening Photoshop.... this problem happened with me two years ago...but it was because of a virus that was running in the background and taking too much memory... so try to free up some space or scan your computer for viruses

When using a software such as Photoshop, your computer has to do functions such as realtime rendering, that utilize a lot of RAM (random acess memory).

Since most of your computer's RAM is being used by Photoshop, little is left hence any action like opening a page, going online wil be slowed down.

Hope this helps. If it really bugs you go to your local electronics store and ask for a RAM upgrade.

Photoshop is a very memory intensive program. Save more often or upgrade to a larger processor. If you have more than one harddrive, you can place all of the filters and effects on the 2nd hd, this speeds things up.

Photoshop is a very computer intensive program. If you are going to be using it a lot I recommend at least 1GB of RAM and a larger hard drive.

Virtual memory is basically telling you that it is running out of Physical RAM, and it is using the hard drive as a secondary source.

Photoshop runs a lot better with more ram and a dedicated video card for video processing. I also wouldn't use anything under a 1.5ghz P4 or a AMD 1800+ processor.

actually imo thats plenty of memory and HD to run photoshop ... i would say u have some other issues going on there like spyware or maybe even driver issues ... try running adaware ...a hate to say it but maybe a reformat and fresh installation of everything might help ... my old pc has 512 and a 40g harddrive and runs CS2 just fine ...

I would suggest getting more Ram (not off the Flash drive, but physical ram!). It should not be that slow. Windows vista seems to slow Elements down alot, so I would upgrade to windows 7 whenever you have the time and cash Notice: college students get windows 7 discounts. Google it!!

well increase your RAMS and more over do this but u need like 10 GBytes free from your hard disk.
right click and go to properties
then go to advanced
then go to performance (click on settings)
then in the tab above choose Advanced
Virtual Memory (down) click change
Initial size (MB) : put here 5000
Maximum size (MB) : put here 8000
and then click set

but remember when you do this setting you are enlarging your virtual memory and that requires space from your Hard Disk so be sure you have for the above setting 10 GBytes free
and double your current RAM size

Photoshop requires a high resource on the computer. You should not run any other problems when using photoshop.
