Last year I tango'd myself with fake tan which streaked and looked awful, this year I've decided on a couple of sunbed sessions before the christmas party. How safe or dangerous are they really?

Sunbeds are just as dangerous as the sun.
Try a different fake tan - Johnson do a "holiday tan" that so long as you moisturise your elbows and knees, and avoid your heel area you can look pretty good!
Ask yourself is it worth the risk? No doubt the Christmas party is an evening "do", so will the lights really be bright enough to show the tan up anyway?

It depends on how old you are an how much you use them.
There's plenty of young gals doing serious damage to themselves through to much exposure to U.V. I say young cus it effects their skin more than in older subjects.
Talking of using them three times a week, which is crazy.
Another more worrying thing is these places that don't maintain there equipment, there have been cases recently of certain types of bed collapsing an trapping the user, with some very unpleasing results.
You can't achieve great results from intense short courses, little an regular is the best way.
Its like most quick fixes or solutions, ok for the short term but not in the long run.
Go to the most up to date place you can find and get advice, they will be more informative.

I wouldn't use them. Yes, they up your skin cancer risk, but if you were to do very many between now and the party, you can actually cook your insides. I knew of a woman who wanted some color for an upcoming wedding. She did something in the neighborhood of four tanning sessions in about two days(all at different salons because none of them would let her cram it in at once). At the wedding, she collapsed and died later in an emergency room from extensive internal organ damage brought on by the tanning rays. And believe me- you will look fine without the extra "color".

there ok if you don't use them too often and wear protecting sun cream/lotion.

try gettting a st. tropez spray on tan, many places do them, you just get a spray tan from head to toe which looks great for about a week. you have to leave it on for a few hours before washing it off though.

I do tell my friend off who goes on the sun bed every single day coz she's silly enough to believe she's not at risk of getting skin cancer, the risk is increased the more you use sun beds. but a few sessions wont harm you.

happy tanning hun

:D x

Ultra violet rays are harmful in the long run. We used to own one and we used it all the time. They are gr8 to use but recently found out that they are dangerous. Besides that if you sweat alot and go on for a long period you can burn badly and cause damage to your skin. i burnt myself 3 years ago and im continuously itchy and dry in that spot

They are very dangerous. They have been proved to be more likely to cause cancer than the actual sun. It's very unwise to risk your life AND end up a wrinkled leather sack at age 28 or 30...mmm, sexy, a wrinkled brown sack of skin!

Don't do it. Please look at this:

dont risk it , i have found the best thing to do is go to a good salon, it should take an hour for a full body application and has never gone streaky. not worth the risk x

soooo dangerous. not worth the risk. they depleate your vitimin c levels, prematurly age your skin, dehydrate the skin leaving it suceptable to pollution and free radical damage, and it damages the barrier function of the skin making you more likely to suffer with skin allergies, and sensitivity. it can cause cateracts if you dont wear protective goggles. enough said. dont use them they are evil. loads of good fake tans and spray tans around try one of those instead

Don't! Why do you need a tan, anyway? Bet you look just great without one. And you want still to look great in 20 years' time, don't you?
