It's winter here in Wisconsin and I'm in an exercise rut. I can't do the things I like to do like bike riding, roller blading, etc. I don't have the money to join a gym. I don't know what to do to keep myself motivated. I'm looking for something fun to do and is cheap. Any suggestions on some fun exercise? Any good DVD's out there? Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you get FitTV on your cable channels?

You may want to buy some great DVD's like ones by Karen Voight. She is excellent and preforms easy to do and very well explained exercises.

I also love Quick Fix Total Mix. It gives you a DVD with an ability to design yourown program and each segment is just 10 minutes! It goes by very quickly.

How about Billy Blanks tae bo? He is awesome and gets right into the camera when he trains you so you almost feel like he is in the room with you! Plus, he is funny and makes you laugh. Its a great work out too!

Try some Pilates. That is a wonderful, low impact work-out that really strengthens your core and makes you have a streamlined, tight, dancer's body if done correctly.

Certainly get some high energy music and dance away while you work out. Have fun with it. get a full length mirror cheaply ($8) at your local Walmart and dance in the mirror. The music will keep you motivated and you can just be silly in the mirror which will also make you smile and keep you motivated.

Sometimes to just have to mix it up a bit to get out of an exercise rut. Go to www.half.com to get really cheap prices on DVDS. Also, check out amazon.com for more cheap DVDs that include customer feedback.

Good luck!

Boy I hear ya on this one. I'm in Pennsylvania, dealing with the same issue. Can you afford to buy an inexpensive elliptical or treadmill? Put an ad in the paper for one. I do about 45 minutes on my elliptical and watch movies or whatever, mostly "Sex in the City." I try and trick myself into thinking, "ooh, I get to watch T.V. now!" ha Anyway, go walking outside at a fast pace, too. That's free and you don't need any special equipment. Do some google searching for other ideas. Wishing you the best!

Get a pair of ice skates and go to the local rink. I'm in Minnesota, and we have free, outdoor ice rinks all over the place. Even though we have no snow yet, they do have the rinks going.

Sometimes I lie on my bed and lift small hand weights while I'm listening to the news on the radio. I'm afraid to use heavier weights because I don't know for certain that I'm not somehow damaging my body.
