How can you find out if somebody is using your lost green card?

I already became a citizen which all together cost $400 for the application and fingertips, I wont need the green card back so I wont pay $190 just to report it, they just told me to send it back if I find it, they dont care if someone is illegally using it, I went to the police station and they want a prove that I did have the green card which is stupid how on earth I became a citizen in the first place if i didnt have the freaking card! the prove they want is the paper they give me when I pay $190

It doesnt expire untill 2007, Im worry they could get my social security even though I dont think its in the card.
Its fustrating!!!!!! I love this country but really hate some of its systems

If you are a citizen now then just forget about the card, it is up to INS now to take care of that. Move on and be happy. And Congrats on you citizenship!!!!

You have to pay to report it as lost? Thats silly. It should be free to report it and you should only have to pay to get a replacement.

Anyway, you did what you could. If the police refuse to do anything then its not your fault. Whoever has your green card will be out of luck when it expires.

Yeah good job on taking the right steps and becoming legal....


Report your green card to the INS/Police and keep proof of your report. Once you have Idenity theift you can sue them for not taking the right actions.

I don't know much about green cards but usually when you have a card it has a number on it, so you can put a search on your green card, but thats all I know. Not many people come into the country legaly anymore.
