The person who posted the Wikipedia link is indeed a wise one. Excommunication used to happen for many reasons, some of them rather frivolous. A few were even excommunicated for speaking out against a corrupt Pope. Now, I'm willing to venture that excommunications are more rare - too many people to excommunicate. Bascially, do something against the church you wish to get excommunicated from.
Oh, and I declared myself Pope many years ago during high school, when I was a Catholic, and I even made a giant Pope Hat to declare myself "Supreme Pope OverLord." My hat was at least two feet taller than the current Pope Hat. I've yet to receive a letter of 'excommunication.' So hush, silly Miriam.

Today it's very difficult. The Catholic Church lost a lot of followers when people became aware of the the gay and pedophile priests. They really don't want to lose any more. Getting a divorce used to do it but I don't know if it would happen today. Just have someone tell them that you passed away in another country. They'll never know.

Tell the church you want to be a priest and teach satan worhshiping. Tell the Church you want to speak about how great Satan is compared to God. Its not easy to get excommunicated since child molesting priest dont get exco....

just stop paying your dues. You're free.
Unless this is one of those things like getting the drunk driving ticket on a bicycle where you just want the documentation to prove it. Probably heresy will do it. But you have to be big about it, no simple journal entries exclaiming your belief in Satan.

In most denominations, you only need to write a letter of resgnation from your denomination.
In some sects, you might want to send a notarized letter, or at least a letter with signatures of a couple of witnesses.

Easiest way today is to report child sexual abuse....
Check out the "Crime of Solicitation" document written by the current pope....it threatens anyone that reports sexual abuse with excommunication. No lie...

Easy. Change your name to Henry, cast off your legitimate wife, tell the Pope to mind his own busines, marry your mistress, dissolve the monasteries, grab all their wealth and declare yourself the head of your nation's church. Good luck.

You are Not commited to any church, & no church can put you into heaven & no church can put you in hell, That is your own free will decision. We all belong to God & not a denomination, It sound like you may be catholic, You don't have to be exconmuicated, Just tell them they are wrong & you are leaving, That won't put you into hell, Hell & Heaven is a personal decision between God & yourself. And not between The Pope & you.
