I often see people writing "eat before 8pm" inorder to lose weight. However my father does not cook meals until atleast 9pm most nights. But if the meal is healthy and I'm not going over my calorie intake of 1200 a day then does it really matter what time i eat?

Any idiot who tells you that it matters does not know what they're talking about. There is absolutely NO difference between a calorie consumed at 10pm and one consumed at 6pm, and it's ridiculous to believe that it would matter. What matters is the TOTAL amount you eat each day, NOT what time you eat it.

Depends on what you eat too. I can't even imagine eating as late as your father. The family and I normally eat around 1730 (5:30PM) every day if we can help it. Then around 6:30PM, I and my wife exercise for at least an hour to an hour and a half. My wife is trying to lose weight, so she doesn't eat after dinner, but she drinks a lot of water (great thing!) However, I will normally make me a protein shake 30 minutes after my workout. I guess it all depends on what kind of lifestyle you are living (weight loss/weight gain). Eating a salad or something light is ok to go to sleep on in my opinion. But eating a full blown meal I would not recommend. Anyway, seems I am rambling. Do what your body can handle. Your body will let you know what it likes and doesn't like.

I will tell you this... if you want to lose weight, DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST. It is soooo important that you eat it.
As for eating late, people say not to eat two hours before you go to bed. But the truth is, I go to work, hit the gym, and by the time I get home it is like 8 and I eat. And I don't care. I eat healthy and the weight stays off (gym helps a LOT too)

Actually it doesn't really matter.

This is because the food you eat will be stored in your body as excess energy until you need energy and your body will start burning calories. So even if you eat late and have to go to sleep soon, as long as you let the food digest before you go to bed, the food will remain your body the same way and be utilised the next day.

Don't worry about it.

if you are only eating 1200 a day, it doesn't matter when you eat them. i would encourage you not to eat such a measly amount of food as it can lead to binge eating, fat hording and hair loss. it is much better to eat the amount of calories for your desired goal weight so that you get used to the amount of food you will be eating for the rest of your life and exercise off excess weight. for example if you weigh 200 lbs and you want to weigh 160lbs. eat 1600 calories and exercise off 400 calories. if you can only exercise 3 times a week, you will have to double the calories burned and add 23%. 400x2=800 x 1.23%=984. you are welcome

Yes it does. If you eat earlier you have more chance of burning off the calories eaten. Going to bed on a meal is not good for digestion and you have no chance of getting the calories used up...;

Yes, if you eat and then go to bed, your body cant burn off the calories as quickly as it could if you were awake. Going to bed right after you eat can also cause insomnia. I would suggest eating dinner earlier and then have a bowl of fruit at 9:00 with dad. Tell him your trying to eat healtier.
