I think they have esteem dropping workshops where you have to repeat that you are a sinner over and over until you start to believe it.

Low self-esteem is not a qualification for becoming a Christian ;) Believing in Christ simply means that we recognize that no matter how good we are, we can never be sinless, or perfect. Accepting Christ as the go-between from us to God makes it possible for us to commune with God as he originally planned before Adam sinned. The penalty for our sin has been paid. Coming to the understanding that we have sin and need forgiveness does not constitute low self-esteem. It merely means we ask for help when we need it, from a God who is more than willing to give it.
If you feel guilty when you realize your sin, asking God for forgiveness makes you guiltless. That doesn't mean that you won't have natural consequences (if you murder someone, believing in Christ won't get you off Death Row). It does mean that the sin that blocks your relationship with God is removed and forgiven.

Most people suffer from low self esteem. I have found that in Christ, I no longer have to have that low self esttem. I was created in the image of God. God considered that it was worth giving His only Son to save me. He has given me His Holy Spirit to indwell me. So I no longer have any reason for a low self-esteem.
Realizing how sinful I was (am)? I still haven't fully realized that fully. The important thing was I realized how great a Saviour Christ was, that I needed Him, and I handed over my life to Him.

Coming to Jesus asking for forgiveness of you sins is not because of low self esteem. It's because we are all sinners and we need forgiveness.

A low self esteem is not necessary, but an accurate appraisal of false bravado can't hurt.

You become a Christian when you choose to [place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
Some people choose this in good times. Others must be allowed to be taken to the pits of despair to realize their need for Christ.

When did feeling crappy bring people to God?
I think bad things happen to people because then they turn to him in their time of need. It doesn't have to do with self-esteem at all, at least I don't think so.
When tragedy strikes, people turn to God for answers, that is why stuff happens in the world that isn't good, to bring people to Him.

In the story of the Prodigal son, he came to himsself before he returned to his father. Meaning, that you have to have your own conviction, i guess that fits in the catagory of how sinful you were. Or acknowledging that you need God's help.

Good question. This is what I have been shown. You need to accept that Jesus died for your sins... So you need to accept that you are sinful. Or there is no salvation, right? God bless.
