To answer the first part I will say that spiritual bankruptcy is prevalent among the religious, and I believe that the religious owe us atheists a little gratitude for giving them all of the things that science has given them for so long.
As to the second part of your question I must say that while there are hundreds of thousands of poor in this country the Churches seem to be getting wealthier every day. How else could we explain the building of so many mega churches?

Financial poverty is manifest when people need things but cannot have. Spiritual poverty is strictly because a religion said so. Religious people don't do the right thing any more often than non-believers.

too many, growing up just my dad's income was a 6-7 figure income and that is the top 1%-3% in Maine. Crazy. Too many people are poor.

I don't know about spiritually, but there are MANY more poor people now than say, 20 yrs. ago. The top 10-5% wealthiest are getting richer than ever, thanks to Repubs tax breaks (esp. Bush's).
