i believe that if someone is providing you a personal service (ex. hairdressers or servers, or anyone you feel is going out of their way for you specifically) it is definately an appropriate time to tip. in most cases, the reason that their hourly rate is so low, is because they depend on the tips to make up the difference. 15% to 20% is customery, although more is always appreciated. it shows that you understand that yes they are doing thier job and getting paid, you want to show them that you personally appreciate what they are doing for you.

I tip my hairdresser 20%. My hair cut is $30- so I give her $6.

Since the hairdresser is the owner and the only employee, it would be nice to tip her- depending upon the service. Haircuts- $5 +
Permanents, hair color, etc. $10 +

She probably has a lot of bills to pay and the extra tip money will come in handy.

Some people say you don't have to tip the owner of a shop- but I usually do, anyway. I usually tip 15-20%, on the higher side if I'm getting it washed and styled too, with the cut.

I always tip the hairdresser, no matter what. I usually tip at least $10. Remember, they're the ones cutting your hair and performing a service. The nicer you are to them, the nicer they'll be to you.

My out look and philosophy is don't mess with the people that serve your food or cut your hair. lol

I always tip whoever cuts my hair when I'm traveling. The guy whose been cutting it for many years also gets tipped - and he owns the salon now. Ergo, I always tip - and have never heard a complaint about people tipping. Of course, this is a guy's perspective...

I always tip my hairdresser well........but lately when she comes in to see me she expects me to give her stuff for free and does not tip me well.......I think I"m going to either cut back on her tip or find a new hairdresser!

OMG YOU DONT TIP THE HAIRDRESSER!!!!

It cost me $80 for a hair cut...and i tip $10 everytime since ive started going there.
You should always tip depending on what your getting done, hair cut should be about 7-10$, hair colour should be 15$ and style should be around 5$....

Yes, you do tip, especially if she does not have any employees. Tips range from 10%-15%, depending on the amount of services rendered.

my aunt owns a hair salon and says she & her stylists expect to be tipped, they think it is rude not to tip, $3-5. Also a couple bucks for the shampoo girl, if it your stylist does not do your shampoo.

Yes you should, its a service being rendered to you. Ten to twenty dollars is a good tip.
