You named quite a few cars from DIFFERENT classes. The Lancer, corolla,Civic, and protege would be in the same catagory as ecomony sedan or coupe. The impreza would be a sports sedan and the maxima would be luxury sedan. So its based on what your preference is. If looking for fuel economy id go with the corolla or the lancer (30-40MPG) while the civic or the protege would be a little more sportier especially of you get the civic Si or the mazdaspeed protege. The maxima is a little more gas hungry with the 3.5 V6 but its very powerful ,roomy ,and has so many luxury qualities. The impreza 2.5 would be nice due to its AWD but i would spend the extra money just to get the WRX.So i would do some research into warranty, consumer reports, crash test safety rating,MPG,recalls, performance specs and price

I have a Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart and I love it. I have never had any problems with it, excpet for the time I drove over a huge mountain of snow on my driveway and it started to pull my bumper off, but that was my fault! The car, in my opinion, is good looking and it never gives me trouble! The civic is supposed to be a good car, but so many people have them and I wanted something different and when I bought my car a few years back, Mitsubishi had just come to Canada so not many people had one.

I have to say a maxima because that is what i have. I have never had any problems with the car AT ALL. It is a 2000 with 80,000 miles on it and still no troubles. Nice leather seats, sunroof, power everything. I love it!

For general purpose, and depending on your climate where you live.....take the Subaru. I've had 3, a Outback, Impreza RS coupe, and Impreza RS sedan.
For more excitement....Impreza WRX STI.

Personally, I like the Honda. I've had two, and they run great. Just remember to change the oil, and they don't seem to have any problems.
