I believe that belief in a "creator god" is humanity's mental construct to deal with situations they feel they have no answers for. If this is what people need as "training wheels" to teach them ethics and morality and it's what works for them then I say "more power to the person", but I believe that if one can think outside the box, open-mindedly, one can learn ethics and morality without belief in a creator god. Buddhism eschews belief in such a being because there's no logic that such a being can exist.
As a person who's studied just about every religion out there right now, I've settled on the logic of Buddhism because it makes sense when you think about it deeply enough. Buddhism, I believe, has done a far better job of telling me HOW to conduct myself ethically and morally, rather than just Western religions' dogmatic declarations of WHAT is ethical and moral. So yes, I think it's possible to ride without such "training wheels" since mine never worked very well at all via the dogma of such religions.

Not sure what god wheels are good for but if you really want to fly you need God wings, He might put out training wheels for some but for u it will be wings or nothing.

It depends on who you're asking. People who are religios will scoff and get very offensive, those who believe we can get more out of life and get through life w/o religion will say "maybe" "yes" or say "that's awfully judgmental". I personally think it's a crutch, but that is only my opinion. Others will think the exact opposite and that is perfectly ok with me. They have a right to their opinion. There are no rights and wrongs in this case- there are only rights and wrongs within your own religion and those who believe with you.

Actually, I prefer the metaphor that it is a crutch.
And for a cripple, it is impossible to walk without them.
