I would definitely not. Wedding gowns are very personal for brides and she should pick what she really wants. It will make things awkward if she insists on something that you don't really like. I would include her on other aspects of your wedding. Such as making party favors, picking flowers, helping with the menu, or just going with you to look at the wedding cake or photographer. getting input from her on some of the smaller things. this way she'll feel good about being apart of the whole process.

YES! Take the afternoon out with her -- eat lunch, visit some stores, and just have fun! You may not know it now, but spending time with her now and showing that you care will prevent problems in the future. It's great that you enjoy spending time with her -- spend all the time you can! Even if she doesn't have a great sense of style just be happy and let your cares go to the wind. Remember - your wedding is a huge event in her life, too.

If you have a good relationship and you feel confident it would be a comfortable thing to do.
May I suggest that you go out with a friend or your Mom or a sister and do an early search and to narrow it down to 3.
Then when you ask her out to do this, there will be less time and decisions involved. Then you can go out to lunch together to top off a pleasant outing.
Best Wishes.

If you still have your own mother and have a good relationship with her, picking out the wedding dress is a special mother-daughter moment for some. I would think about your mom first and how it might make her feel. If she's cool with it, or isn't around, then by all means invite the mother-in-law. :)
Congrats on getting married!

I have taken my future mother in law wedding dress shopping and it was a lot of fun. If you feel comfortable telling her if you don't like something, go for it. It can be a great bonding experience. But I would check with your mother first to see how she feels about it - you don't want to insult her.

Sure - that sounds good. You can get her opinion, and spend time with her even if you end up choosing a different gown. If you are close with her, let her know that you enjoy her. That is a great idea.

I think FMIL would love to be asked her advice/suggestions/help! My mother and FMIL both sat on each side of me and I was thrilled that they both picked out the same style dress that I was interested in!

if you to get along, and you think she would enjoy it - by all means go ahead! It is not unheard of for the future mother-in-law to accompany the bride and often the bride's mother, when shopping for the dress.
