If there is an airbag in the front passenger seat then I believe the child should be at least 12 years old and over 80 pounds. My owner's manual has a section on it so you may want to see if your's has a section regarding this.

it is recomended that the child is at the age of 12. But I suggest with airbags anyone who is not at full stature should sit in the back. I race cars for a living and have seen some bad accidents. Roll overs where the two in front died, and the ones in back only had a few scratches. I highly recomend that if you really care then they stay in back until they can drive. good luck. (I just had to buy a mini van due to my over procreation of kids. I only had sports cars, and now have four kids.)

I think they have to be at least 5ft tall and 100 lbs. It's not an age thing, because the air bag knows no age. There are 'smart air bags' now, that calibrate the explosive force to the wieght of the passenger.

Back seat is the most safe place. (just by design and crash studies)

State laws vary, however I agree with Leah, in Texas it is like 80 lbs till they can get out of a booster seat, or if they are 4 ft 8 inches i think, you can look up your states department of public safety website and it should be there somewhere, under carseat laws.

It depends on whether your car has airbags or not. I personally would never put a child under 80lbs or 12yrs of age in the front seat.

Children 12 and younger must ride in the back seat of the vehicle.

Read the warning label that is probably posted in the passenger side visor of the car!
