My four year old son picks his nose so bad that it bleeds. I have tried punishing him for it, swatting his had away when I catch him, everything I can think of. Does anyone have any suggestions on tricks to get him to stop? I know a lot of kids grow out of it, but this is extreme! Please no hit the kid remarks or anything like that though, I know it's gross, but I don't think it's behavior that warrants violence.

no behavior warrants violence...now that said...put a pair of gloves on him. it sounds silly, but it will work -- either a pair of thick, heavy gloves OR mittens. can't pick your nose with a bunch of wool on your fingers. my mom did that when my bro was little to keep him from sucking his thumb.

Make sure his nails are clipped short so that it is hard for the nails to make the nose bleed. Also, maybe his nose is dry inside, would explain the bleeding. Saline only nose spray would help with the dryness, you can get that at any drugstore, just make sure it is the saline only kind. Hope it helps!!!

just sit him down and talk to him..tell him that if he dont stop picking his nose that he is gonna have a bloody nose most of the time because its gonna scab if he keeps picking it and picking it...tell him that when he gets older he is gonna have lots of friends and if he dont stop picking his nose than his friends are gonna make fun on him and not want to be friends with him anymore show him that picking your nose is nothing to be excited about make it sound like its something horrible...even say if you dont stop picking you nose im not gonna get you anything for christmas or santa whoever if u havnt told him the real truth

My son does this too, so now we take away one of his cars everytime he does it...it's cut the frequency in half in just days.
My son LOVES the Disney movie Cars and has all like 30 some of the diecast cars from it so we take one of his favorites each time.
We also remind him that his friends will think he is gross if he does this.

Well this sounds kind of cruel, but my daughter had the same problem. I put the tiniest dab of hot sauce on her finger and when she did it again it burned a little. Not anything horrible, or painful she just didn't like it. I had to do it a few times, but I have not seen her do it again. Hope this helps.

Kids will be kids, if picking his nose is the worst thing he ever does, he'll be great. Don't have a cow over something so small. Tell him not to do it and he'll just go do it somewhere else.

Maybe you could try putting some kind of body spray/perfume or something that wouldn't smell to good to him on his hands that might keep them away from his nose.

how about a good spanking when you catch him? Obviously you "punishing him" and swatting his hand away isnt working but how imbarrassing would that be when he does it at school and gets known as the class nose picker?
***That or tell him if he keeps doing that santa clause will leave him a lump of coal or that he will pick his brains out and die...lol jk on that last one

Flick the backside of your nail for five mins, then soak them in water that has a trace of lemon in it. If you do that to each and every finger as soon as per week your nails will have to have grown.

my 6 year old son does that and I have just embarassed him (saying ewww your gross, thats discusting, no one wants to see that, other kids are gunna make fun of you..that kind of stuff), I have also gone so far as to show him how gross it looks...now he does it mostly in the bathroom :)
