The best way to smoke pork chops is with a dedicated smoker. If you don't have one, you can do it with a standard charcoal BBQ and even with a gas grill.
For charcoal BBQ, burn down your coals and move them to one side of the grill. The temperature inside should be about 250-300 F. Place pork chops on other side of the grill, off the coals. Wrap a chunk of wood (I like cherry or apple for pork) in foil and prick the foil with a fork, then place it near (but not directly on) the coals.
Same idea with a gas grill, but light burners on one side, and put the pork on the other side. Same routine to generate the smoke.
It should take a half hour or so for thin chops, more for thicker. Target a temperature of about 140F in the center for done.

Yes you can get a smoker for less than $50 at walmart. They work great but I think that it is best to smoke the entire loin and then cut it into chops; it takes about 1 hour per pound to get it fully cooked I would also invest in a meat thermometer to check to make sure it is done. Temp. should be at least 180 degrees in the center away from any bones.

There is a dry mix in the spice section of American grocery stores called "Grill Creations" by Durkee and they have smoked flavoring like Mesquite. You mix it with a little vinegar and marinate. Absolutely fabulous. You can also buy the bottle of smoke flavoring that works just as well.

I think you can buy a smoker and do it. Check in department or kitchenware appliance stores.
Smoked porkchops are great smothered with onions in a skillet!

Absolutely! But my advice is to brine them first. Go to Gourmet.com and look up some great recipes. ENJOY
