Well I am a mom with 8 kids so my instict would be like "burping a baby".

Kind of an embarrassing q & a but I find when I am burping a baby, I sometimes burp, too! :-o So I would suggest placing a firm pillow (like a throw pillow you use for the sofa) and "hugging" it and then patting the pillow in front of your chest (low chest above stomach). I believe this will work.

There are some herbal or homeopathic remedies such as Gasolve that would work, but I get the impression that time may be "of the essence" right now so that is what I would do (in private, of course ;-) psst, don't tell anyone that a lady admitted to belching, will ya?)

The Gasolve remedy contains the following herbal and homeopathic ingredients: (maybe you could try one or more of these if readily available to you)

Carbo. veg. (30C) is a homeopathic remedy well known for its positive effect on digestion, including treatment of flatulence and wind. Carbo. veg. is excellent for absorbing excess gas and toxins in the body and is particularly effective for individuals who suffer from indigestion, sporadic constipation and diarrhea, sour belching, wind and bloating. This remedy will stimulate healthy digestion and circulation and will even relieve fatigue.

Foeniculum officinale (Fennel) helps to relieve the symptoms of gas and bloating and also acts as a digestive aid. Fennel can assist in detoxification and prevent a rumbling stomach, as well as many digestive discomforts. Since medieval times this herb has been taken after meals to prevent flatulence, indigestion and colic.

Zingiber officinalis (Ginger) has a long history of medicinal use in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic (Indian) medicine. Modern research confirms its effectiveness in relieving the symptoms of indigestion, flatulence and nausea. Zingiber works mostly in the digestive system by boosting digestive juices and strengthening the process of digestion. Ginger has strong anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties.

Arctium lappa (Burdock) is well-known as an herbal blood purifier and system cleanser. Taking Burdock will effectively detoxify the digestive system, strengthen weak digestion, relieve wind, distension (bloating), constipation and indigestion.

Hi

A good old fashioned remedy for helping to dispel wind is activated charcoal which you can buy at any health food store. It absorbs the gas and brings it out. Experiment with it first in private as it can be so effective that you end up with a tail wind.

Excess gas is often caused by poor bowel bacteria. Get yourself some good quality probiotics (not the drinks in the supermarket) which deliver a high dose of a range of bacteria. Alternatively try Lepicol (again available in health food shops) which is a fantastic product that works. Alternatively give

Assuming eveything's working OK at the other end, try over-the-counter indigestion medication. Remegel's good for trapped wind. If it goes on for more than a couple of days you should see the Doc. You could have a helicobacter infection which can be cleared up with prescription medication.

If you aren't able to have a bowel movement or fart, and you get severe abdominal pain, you must seek medical help right away, in case there's a blockage.

Fizzy drinks usually the best for belching, or beans (the baked type) for the other type of wind relief!!

Half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda dissolved in a small glass of water should do the trick.
