I always just check the bottom of the pan with my hand, if it's cool to touch you should be ok to frost

I frost my cakes when they are completely cooled at room temp. If the box didn't say to refrigerate it to cool it, then you should have left it on the counter to cool. It will pick up moisture from being in the refrigerator & that may not be a good thing when frosting. You may now have trouble getting it out of the pan because you put it in the refrigerator. They tell you to wait 10 minutes before flipping because that gives the cake a chance to cool down a bit. Good luck!

You should wait until it's completely cool. After about 10 minutes, you can take it out of the pan and cool it on a wire rack. This will decrease the cooling time. It will probably take at least an hour, but if you try to do it too early the frosting will just melt on you.

you could put the cake in the fridge for about 7 -8 minutes.

i suggest you do what some call a "crumb layer". apply a first coat of icing after the cake cools to pick up crubs. wait 10 minutes and then apply a second coat. the second coat will come out very clean and without all of those stray cake crumbs.

i got this from a friend, had never made a cake before and when it was done it looked professional.

good luck

I put mine in the freezer for about 15 min after they are cool to the touch, and it helps the frosting not to pick up the top layer of the cake and keeps the crumbs out!

at least an 2 hours is best some people do it after 1 hour but you should wait 1 hour if its too hot the frosting will melt and your cake will crumble in spots.

I don't usually frost mine. I like mine plain, but I'd wait an hour and a half to do it.

Wait until it is cool to the touch, I would think about 30 minutes.
