When a stranger holds the door open, walks through a vestibule, and holds the door open again, should I say "thank you" both times they hold it open or only the first time they hold it open? When a stranger sneezes multiple times, should I say "bless you" each time? I want to be polite and avoid awkwardness, but don't want to over do it.

remember the measure you give is
the measure you get.
It does not hurt to say thank you or bless you as often as you like
you can never praise enough
just think if you praised a person as often as most put others down, how very different the world would be.
heap on the goodness!!!
tis the season

With the door thing. One time should do it. About the sneeze thing, I would say bless you up to the second sneeze. If they sneeze again then just ignore it or make a joke.

~You are a very sweet person to be wondering ways to be polite, You don't see that much anymore in the world today~

If a stranger holds/opens the door for you twice, of course you should say "Thank you"... because who said that he had to open the door for you in the first place.... and twice!! That's just being too nice... as for sneezing, Well it depends on who is the one sneezing... I say "bless me" when I sneeze... and GOD knows I would not thank myself... but common sense would tell you if you sneeze... and someone says "bless you" ..."thank you" would be a common gesture....if you think about it, there is not rule to sneezing!

When going through multiple doors in rapid succession, one thank you would suffice. Same with sneezes. I usually thank twice, there is nothing wrong with being curtious, and say "again" for the sneezes. It is nice to see you have manners. So many don't . God Bless and Merry Christmas.

In the door holding example, I suppose for the second time, a simple smile & nod is sufficient (since you already said "thank you" the first time, it is understood).

For the sneeze, I suppose that the first "bless you" is sufficient.

With the door I definitely say it both times. With the sneezing thing, I think once is enough.

It is proper to extend an acknowledgment for each action, either as a whole or for each separate action, although it isn't necessary to do so. So if you add something to the "thank you" or "bless you" that let's them know that it is for more than just the one time, then that would be proper. But you don't need to.

with the doors, i always say thank you twice. or i'll say thank you so much. with the sneezing, i'll say bless you after the first sneeze or if they have multiple sneezes in a row, i'll say it after they're done. there's no such thing as saying either of them too often.

As many times as you like. Just don't make unwavering eye contact with them, and don't say it more often than they do it, that would be creepy.

Or if you are a rebel, do exactly what I described above. make unwavering eye contact and keep repeating thank you than you thank you or Bless you bless you bless you until they run away...

Still polite...
