If it went longer than 3 rounds, I would give it to Jack Johnson...legend has it that he was a very tall muscular man.

Boxing changed a hell of a lot from Johnsons' day to Tysons'. Tyson would have destroyed him within 5 rounds. Johnson would never have come accross anybody with Tysons speed, power and boxing skills (prime). Johnson was a great champion for his time but that's where it ends. I can't understand why people think he would have been a threat to any of the modern day champions.
Louis, Marciano, Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Lewis is a list of fighters who would also have beaten Johnson and Tyson would have beat some of these.

send the tyson of his prime and put him in the ring he could have another foreman 5 on his hands he would ko johnson jeffreies corbett fitzsimmons and tommy burns all in the same day but thats whats unfair of trying to compare boxers of one era with another training has changed and even body size has evolved an example not that far off is profootball linemen offensive guards now weight 300 plus lbs where the guards for the first superbowl weighed 250 which is todays linebackers, another example jessie owens long regarded as the best olympic 100 meter runner today would finish last in the 100 meter womens final in all things being equal say tyson being born in johnson`s era and knowing what we know i could see johnson tying tyson up and giving him fits but keep in mind they would have fought prob multiple times so both would have excellent chances at gaining victories in at least some of the matches.also fighters like mckvey and jeanette and langford and wills would have prob had great careers as champions had they been born much later in life. switch jack johnson with muhammad ali and i think both fighters would have performed as the other did in respective era`s.

There is not even a question. Athletes of the last 20 years are light years ahead of athletes from earlier in the century. Tyson would absolutely destroy Jack Johnson.

In fact, probably the top 50 heavyweights of today would probably knock Jack Johnson out in a few rounds. Althletes of today are bigger, stronger, faster, better trained, etc.

This is true for all sports. Barry Bonds and 20 other players would have hit 150 home runs in one season if they played in the 1920s. It would be like batting practice.

TYSON - W 50 (KO's 43) TF 58 - W pct 86% - KO pct 74% - wins over Berbick, Spinks, Williams, Biggs, Thomas, Holmes, Ruddock, Smith and Bruno - KO'ed by Holyfield[2], Lewis and Douglas (average fighters) - #16 ranked puncher - #72 ranked fighter
Tyson did not have Frazier's will or heart.

JOHNSON - W 93 (KO's 52) TF 127 - W pct 73% - KO pct 41% - wins over T. Hart and Jeffries - KO'ed by Williard
He fought past 50 yrs old (ridiculous)
Ring Magazine only ranks fighters back to 1922 (after Jack's time)
He was a great defensive fighter and far ahead of his time in speed and boxing prowess.

In this fight, we have Johnson in a 24th rd TKO. Just kidding my peeps, I have Johnson in a highly controversial/disputed and close majority decision.

If a primed Roy Jones was 220 and could do all he could do when he was at his best Tyson would be in trouble, I see Roy winning by unanimous decision. He would punish Tyson with flurries and be nowhere to be found when Tyson tried to respond. He has another level of speed and it would frustrate Tyson the way Leonard frustrated Duran in their second bout.

This is a question that pops up and the answer usually dates the one who gives it !
So what i like to do is look at the facts.
Styles make fights jhonson in his prime was one of the best defensive fighters of all time but was floored several times by small men usually when he got bored .
but looking at that and what styles gave him trouble you have too say tyson whould have killed him inside three rounds
Dempsy at this same time destroyed fighters and he was bascally the same style and no where near the puncher or defensive genious in his prime as tyson.

Against a GOOD tactical fighter Tyson would loose or only take it on points. He was an animal in the ring but not the best skilled fighter

I never heard of jack johnson.
But ,I would say that mike tyson stands out from all othere winners in all other sports. The margin between the next best and the best has probably never been greater ion any sport.

Unfortunately , tyson was wrongly imprisoned for rape.
the greatest sporting hero was never to shine quite so brightly again after his years inside.
A tragedy.
