I am feeling nervous but would love to stop wearing glasses or contacts. Has anyone had bad experiences of this?

I had LASIK done about 7 years ago (have been wearing glasses for 8 years before the surgury) and I have been VERY happy with it. It's great not having to wear glasses.

In all honesty the consultation was hardest for me because I really don't like people getting near my eyes. They checked my vision, no problem, but then they did an eye pressure test, which was hard for me, not a big deal for most.

The morning of the surgery I was drugged up and pretty happly, lol. They laid me down in a chair, clamped my eyelids so I couldn't blink (that didn't hurt like I thought it would) and kept putting drops in my eyes. The machine centered over my eye, I felt little pressure, heard a clicking sound and it was over.

By that evening, when I woke up, I could see fine. And I have seeing clearly since.

There's not much more i can add really to the above answer, but i just thought i'd give my opinion. I actually had a consultation with Optical Express myself last week, and now have my surgery booked for a week on Saturday, and in my opinion, Optical Express are very good. However as mentioned, i was expecting my surgery to cost around the £395 per eye bracket, but it's ended up costing me around £2500 and thats with a 10% discount. But this is for the Advanced Wavefront (due to my eyes not being suitable for standard) and also i opted for the Intralase too which was an extra few hundred an eye. But in all honesty, i'm not that bothered that it has cost me more - i'd pay anything to get my eyes fixed. I'm not the best at asking questions, but i did find that my Optical Express branch were very good at telling my everything in regards to enhancements, follow up appointments etc. The only thing i didn't do was meet the surgeon, but i was assured that he would see me on the day and assess my eyes again to determine whether the procedure the Optometrist had picked was the best for me. I had been worried about what you could actually see whilst they did the procedure, but they even managed to put me at ease about that. I did genuinely find them very helpful and friendly, and i hope your consultation went as well as mine did!

I have only heard of a few good experioences verses lots of bad ones. I would go talk to an eye doctor first, before just listening to one of those advertized "laser treatment" specialists. Go see a reputable opthalmologist at your local hospital and get an opinion there.
