Any recommendations for a weekend away. Somewhere scenic, a local pub, good B&B or hotel - not too far from Midlands/Staffordshire - happy to travel hour or two.

I recently had a lovely break staying at the White Swan in Lavenham, Suffolk. The village itself is beautiful, there's plenty walking in the surrounding countryside, and towns like Woodbridge, and the coast at Aldeburgh and Southwold, are a short drive away. It's a very overlooked part of the country!

The hotel itself is a wonderfully restored old coaching inn, with a highly rated restaurant. There's some better deals on sites like activehotels.com than on its own site.

in case you want some thing fairly distant faraway from the crowds and screaming little ones, the islands off Scotland's coast are outstanding for a short damage. Orkney has numerous exciting archaelogical internet sites and Skye has distinct the most impressive surroundings, plus some cracking reliable eating places (the three Chimneys, for example).
