You could let her have one litter so that your mama could get a kitten. I would love to have a bob-tailed kitten. I had one growing up that loved ice cream. His name was Max and he was the sweetest.

Have your cat spayed. There are far too many unwanted animals out there. Your Mom can adopt a cat through a local shelter. The also may be some kind of resuce for bobtailed cats. If she really has her heart set on that kind of a cat.

Yes, have her spayed. Because if you breed her so your mom has "a" kitten, there will be another four to seven kittens that need to find homes in an already overpopulated world.
There are millions of cats out there that need homes already. Don't add to the problem...
As for "drommamomma" - it's people like YOU who intentionally breed without having a clue what you're doing that CREATE the massive overpopulation problem in the first place.
Those of us who work in Rescue and who have to clean up after your litters are fed up with the stupidity and selfishness of people who don't give a damn that millions of animals are killed in the US each and every year because there aren't enough homes for them.
Every time I go to the shelter to pull a dog because there's a spot in rescue, I do so knowing that 75% of the dogs I have to leave behind will be dead in a week.
So pardon me for being pissed at people like you who cause this problem.

First of all can you find another bob tailed male? And what are you going to do with the other kittens? Can you guarantee them good homes?
My best suggestion is to spay her. There are so many cats & kittens in shelters and on the streets its disgusting. And for the person who said have the vet cut off their tails needs to get their head examined!!!!

With 9 animals being euthanized every minute in the US, I'm sure your mother could probably find a cat, even a bobtail at the local shelter. They're not all that rare.

well - it depends. Is she an indoor or outdoor cat. If she is an indoor cat and your mom just wants a kitten the factors you should take in to consideration are..the cat will more than likely have more than one kitten are you prepared to take on the reposibility of finding them a good home or keeping them, yourself?

I agree that are too many cats and other animals out there that don't have homes...BUT....I am sick and tired of people blowing up on those of us whou have simple questions about these situations. I would say if your Mom wants a kitten like yours try to find her one at a shelter....it is your choice and you have the right to breed her if you want. I recently posted a question about how soon would I see physical signs if my boxer is pregnant. These people didn't care who I was or why I was doing it, they simply exploded on me, went off into a rant and called me a backyard breader. So if you get answers like that that do not answer your question at all and only post their views and opinions about how bad people like us are ignore them.

CF is entirely right! Even one heat cycle predisposes a female cat to mammary cancer later in her life - statistically the incidence is as high as 90%.
Mammary cancer can require a bilateral surgery up and down her belly to remove all teats on both sides, followed by chemotherapy and radiation. Even then it may not save her life. Mammary cancer in cats is very aggressive (not so much so in dogs). You won't want to have to put a beloved cat through this procedure to say nothing of the expense and with no assurance that it can save her life.

Just because the mother cat is a bobtail, doesn't mean the kittens will be the same. But if you were willing enough I say you should try it. You will probably get at least one bob-tailed kitten. And if none of them are bob-tailed, you can take it to the vet and have a tail removed.
Good luck with your decision.
