I went shopping yesterday and am in my ninth month of pregnancy. The cashier at the store asked me if I was pregnant and then said "all these have preservatives".I came home and cried for hours ,for she made me feel so bad ,like I was an uncaring mom .I am pregnant for the first time .Was the woman crazy or right?

Do not listen to her. I really don't know if the placenta screens them. But the majority of society lives off of preservatives and all these babies are coming out just fine. I for one in my last months could care less about cooking and ate alot of packages food and my kids were all healthy and between 7-9lbs. High apgar scores and all.
Do not worry you are NOT a bad mom. That lady did more damage by telling you that because the last thing you need to do is be stressed at a time like this.
Good Luck!!!

I hate that people all think they are frickin pregnancy experts. Next time, ask them if they have a medical degree. I generally say something like, "Wow, doctors must not be too in need nowadays if you have to waste that degree working in a (fill in store here.)" Shuts them up with a quickness.

The placenta's job is to filter harmful things from the baby. Some things, like caffeine, aren't filtered or metabolized by the baby. However, even most of these things are ok in moderation. For instance, you can still use a small amount of caffeine without harm to your baby.

Would it possibly be better to eat nothing but 100% natural foods brimming with vitamins? Probably. But that's not very practical, is it? Also, look at all those people who got e.coli from lettuce and spinach. That's much more harmful to the baby than a preservative!

The point is that you can relax. A friend of mine could literally eat NOTHING but McDonald's Big Macs during half her pregnancy (everything else made her very very ill) and she has a perfectly healthy baby. (not that that's the best food at all, lol)

She is not only crazy, she's rude. I had a cashier look at my items the other day, and ask me what I was making. When I told her, she made a face like it was the grossest thing she'd ever heard of, and said "ick". I felt like slapping her. If you've made it to your ninth month, and your doctor has no concerns, you are in the home stretch. You are doing fine! Ignore idiots like that. They seem to think it's perfectly o.k. to talk about how high/low you're carrying, what terrible things happened to their friend's cousin's neighbor's mother during pregnancy, etc. Remember, she is a grocery clerk, with maybe a high school education. Your doctor went through four years of college, four years of medical school, and a residency. The only one you need to listen to is him/her. Good luck!

That woman was crazy. I'm sure you've been getting prenatal care, and you know what to eat. Don't let the busybodies who think they have to tell everyone how to live their lives make you feel bad. Besides, when it comes right down to it, how did she know that the groceries were even for you. My grandmother was home bound had a housekeeper who bought all of her groceries for about 5 years before she passed away.

dont let some stranger make you question your mothering skills! :)i mean true you shouldnt be eating hotdogs and lunch meat, but your baby will be fine !! i didnt know that i wasnt supposed to eat tuna which just so happened to be what i craved during my whole pregnancy!! when i found out that was a no-no, after hours of crying, i made an appointment to make sure the baby was okay..she was fine and still is!! our bodies are meant to protect the baby..if there was something wrong, by now you would know :) so dont worry honey, relax and enjoy the last month of being pregnant-- Good luck and God Bless :)

the cashier has no business judging your choices of food. YOu really can't get food these days that doesn't have some. except for organic, and then you worry about having bugs in your food. As long as you eat healthy food, then you dont need to worry about preservatives in your food.

She's an idiot...you are very hormonal right now, and anything is going to hurt your feelings. Preservatives are a part of life...and are very hard to avoid. Hang in there...its almost over.

LOL The woman is crazy!!! It is either preservatives or spoiled food.....

Practically every woman in the world eats food with preservatives. They are not going to harm your baby. Don't let people like that get to you..... Every kook in the world comes out of the wood work to tell you are doing soemthing wrong. I was once told not to raise my arms above my head b/c it chokes the baby. She honestly thought it was true too.

There are plenty of stupid people out there so don't let them get to you!!!

Its pretty hard to find anything without preservatives in it these days. That woman was just a witch. Don't let her get to you. Our bodies and babies are a lot tougher than you think!
