I'd say butter because it'll almost help add to the natural flavoring of the crabmeat. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE garlic, but it's a strong flavor. Crabmeat is light and delicate, and you don't want to totally cover up the natural flavor of the crab with a really strong secondary flavor. I think the butter would help enhance it without covering it up.

I would not recommend crabs to anyone. Usually a good shave and some shampoo from the doc will take care of them lil' buggers. Eating crabs is seriously out of the question and should not even be considered. The itchy-scratchys really put a damper on a guy's day. Crotch monsters are highly NOT recommended. Heed this advice or you'll be sorry, I can assure you that.

Oh God, you need lemon-garlic butter. Melt a stick of butter, toss in a big spoonful of minced garlic, and the juice of a lemon. Maybe even throw in some of the zest. Let that heat on low while the crab steams. It's so decadently delicious.
